Founded in 1996 by Mr. H. Kharmalki, Sur Bathiang was the very first recording studio in Meghalaya. Purpose-built from the ground up, the studio was designed to accommodate everything from solo artists to full choirs and bands.
Over three decades, the studio has been upgraded multiple times and today stands as one of the most well-equipped studios in the region — combining world-class gear with the warmth of a team that truly understands music.
We have recorded thousands of songs and hundreds of albums spanning multiple languages and genres, working with celebrated local artists including the late folk legend Mr. Skendrowell Syiemlieh. Beyond music, we have also handled dubbing for films and animations.

Rates shown are indicative. The final price depends on the requirements of your project — session length, arrangement, number of musicians and post-production all affect the total. Music Track, Full Song, Choir and Live Take rates are per song; Studio Time is charged by the hour or the day. All recording is by prior booking, confirmed by a 50% deposit with the balance due on completion. Sessions are scheduled in advance so the room and engineer are ready for you, which means we may not be able to take walk-ins. Ask us for a quote and we will give you an exact figure — or read the full terms.

We have recorded in seven languages — Khasi, Jaintia, Garo, English, Mizo, Nepali and Hindi — across hundreds of albums and thousands of songs.
Our hourly Studio Time rate applies. The time we charge for is the work itself — the actual recording, plus the editing and mixing that follow. Tell us how many songs you have and we will estimate it for you.
That is a Music Track, priced per song. You choose the arrangement — Premium Full Band, Full Orchestration or Traditional — and we produce the backing track for you to use however you need.
That is a Full Song, priced per song. Pick the arrangement that suits the piece and the rate covers producing the music and recording your vocals to it.
A Live Take is for bands who want every musician playing at once, together in the room, rather than building the song up part by part. It captures the feel of a live performance — the interplay between players that is difficult to recreate when everyone records separately.
Yes. Bring us what you have — music, vocals or both — and our hourly Studio Time rate applies to the editing and mixing.
Yes, we dub for movies, documentaries and animated productions, in any of the languages we work in. Our hourly Studio Time rate applies.

Please book in advance. All recording runs by prior arrangement so that the room is set up and an engineer is free for your session — turning up unannounced, we may not be able to record you that day. A call ahead also lets us talk through what you need and set aside the right amount of time.
A 50% deposit confirms your booking, with the balance due on completion. If you need to move or cancel, we need at least 24 hours' notice — give us that and your deposit carries over to the new date, or is refunded in full if you would rather not rebook. With less notice, or if nobody arrives, the deposit is not refunded, because the slot is time we have turned away other work for. Full details are in our terms.
